Q: How do I go about setting up a visit?
A: Contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Q: Is travel, lodging and meals included in the honorarium?
A: No, it is not. Travel, lodging and meals are an additional fee. When traveling out of state, two nights of lodging are required.
Q: How do we pronounce your last name?
A: Easy. Check out TeachingBooks.net who just asked me the same thing. CLICK HERE
Q: My school doesn’t have a budget for author visits, can you visit for free?
A: I can do only an extremely limited number of free school visits. If you’d like me at your school and budget is an issue, you might consider:
- Partner with other schools in your district to maximize the experience and curb some of the cost.
- Crowdfunding sites like donorschoose.org
- Partnering with libraries, indie book sellers and/or businesses in your community
- Title I Schools
If your school qualifies for Title 1 funds, you may be eligible to apply some of your funding towards special programs to provide additional academic support and learning opportunities to help low-achieving children master challenging curricula and meet state standards in core academic subjects.
- Write a Grant (potential support below)
Target, The Foundation Center, National Endowment for the Humanities, 3M Gives, State Humanities & Arts Councils, Center for the Study of Multicultural Children’s Literature, Education Enrichment Foundation.
Q: Will you bring books to sell?
A: Pre-purchase class sets or more and receive a 40% discount ordering directly from the publisher. Candlewick Press carries Fat Angie: email Anne.Irza-Leggat@candlewick.com.
To purchase copies of Prizefighter en Mi Casa or Feels Like Home, email: email@example.com
Q: What age groups are your school visits appropriate for?
A: My books are YA and Middle Grade, so that always works. However, I’ve held creative workshops with kids as young as five. So, let me know what your needs are, and let’s see if I’m a good fit for your program.
Q: Do you talk focus only on writing?
A: My focus is enable young people to see the power and opportunity in their voice — their creative potential. As a filmmaker, novelist, playwright and poet, I am open to approaching a broad range of topics geared toward:
- K – 12 Students
- College Students
- Indie Book Shops
- Teen Zones/Adult Book Clubs
- Graduate Film Programs
